Great ‘object analysis’ of a single earring by Lou Stoppard. Strong trend for AW14 introduced by two major fashion houses – Céline and Louis Vuitton.
Céline known for its minimalism, both in clothing and accessories design, this time presented very decorative and huge ‘Baroque Star’ single earring in crystal, brass and strass. The eye-catching element, the statement piece for which simple and minimalistic clothes, seem to work as a perfect background.
Louis Vuitton, for the very first time, under artistic direction of Nicolas Ghesquière introduced something totally different. Their single earring is very simple, very minimalistic with some contemporary, almost industrial, touch. The house well-known for their accessories (mainly bags) covered with LV monogram, this time went for slightly undercover option, for something which still reminds about the brand but it’s not so obvious – one of the earring’s elements has a ‘V’ shape.
Practical note:
Céline earring is actually a clip-on (that’s a plus for those who doesn’t have their ears pierced) and it’s… super-heavy! Also it doesn’t hold very well and ear starts to hurt just after a few minutes of wearing it. Price: £650.
Although Louis Vuitton earring looks big and heavy it’s actually very light. That was a nice surprise! It’s a proper earring so you have to have your ears pierced to be able to wear it. Price: £530.
